The Steelers defense was beleaguered but made plays when we needed them to be made

As I stated at the outset, the Steelers defense gave up ‘a ton’ of yards to the Ravens, way too many for my liking, but, in the end, we made the plays necessary to secure victory. The Steelers ‘D’ was able to recover 2 fumbles, force 2 INTs, and generate 4 sacks on a very mobile QB.  Those were the bright spots.

The not so bright spots were stated earlier.  We gave up a whopping 457 net yards, 265 yards of which were on the ground.  To state this another way, the Steelers defense gave up more yards on the ground than the offense was able to generate for the entire game.

I know I have said this multiple times in several different ways, but it just seems like we are living dangerously with the style of the defense we are playing.  Yes, we can generate sacks and force turnovers, for the most part; however, the Steelers defense has been way too susceptible to the ‘big play’ from the opposing offense and that was the case again against the Ravens.

True to form, we made the big play on defense when one needed to be made.  Whether it was an INT, a timely sack, or a last-second stand to win the game, the Steelers ‘D’ was ‘leaky’ throughout the game, but sealed the victory against the Ravens.

Let’s wrap this up with the third and final thing we learned.
