Steelers must shutdown the run

This Ezekiel Elliott led offense hasn’t exactly been the offenses of old for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. The former All-Pro running back is averaging just 3.9 yards per carry and 6.5 yards per catch this year. In addition, Elliott has coughed the ball up a whopping 5 times in just 8 games.

The Steelers, on the other hand, have one of the best run defenses in the league. However, this area was tested against the run-heavy Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. Despite game-planning to contain quarterback Lamar Jackson, Pittsburgh still surrendered 265 yards on the ground to their division rival.

The Cowboys are going to be down to a third or fourth-string quarterback this week, and whoever they go with between Cooper Rush or Garrett Gilbert, neither quarterback has thrown an NFL pass yet in 2020. Pittsburgh’s defensive line should be able to feast in this contest, against an inexperienced quarterback. But to do so, they will have to make sure they take the run game completely out of the picture for the Dallas Cowboys.
