Most Valuable Player: T.J. Watt

Nothing is more important to the success of a football game than the quarterback. However, if we are considering how good each player is in respect to their position, nobody is more valuable to the Steelers than T.J. Watt.

For the second consecutive year, Watt is a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Though he will need a few big games with impressive sack totals, this is not out of the realm of possibility. Currently, Watt is on pace to put up a similar tackle for loss, quarterback hit, and pressure numbers that big brother J.J. recorded in two of his three seasons as the Defensive Player of the Year.

T.J. Watt has been remarkable in the first half of the season. He has earned the highest overall grade of any edge defender so far this year, according to Pro Football Focus, and it’s not hard to see why. With his combination of power, quickness, bend, and technique, he’s as well-balanced as they come. Watt will be the best overall player on the Steelers for years.
