The Steelers offense is humming with our franchise QB at the helm

So when I say the Steelers offense is humming with Ben Roethlisberger, our franchise QB, at the helm, that is not ‘going out on a limb’.  We all know what transpired during the 2019 season without ‘Big Ben’ at the helm.  The offense was essentially feckless. That may sound harsh but that’s the truth.

Let me qualify the term ‘humming’.  The Steelers offense has been able to score points with some alacrity, but it seems like the offense at times sputters a bit, but gets going later in the game.  Through the first eight games of the 2020 season, according to ESPN.com, the offense ranks 25th in yards per game.

While that is not ‘something to write home about’, what is noteworthy is the fact that the offense ranks 5th in point per game.  This is part of the reason we are undefeated right now.  We are simply outscoring our opponents. The passing game is ranked 22nd; the running game is ranked 19th.

I would personally like to see us get back to the ‘power run’ game, but since Derek Watt, our one and only FB has been unavailable for the past four games, we have had to rely on the ‘jet sweep’ and quick passes as substitutes.  There will come a time when we need to ‘salt away’ a game and the ‘power run’ game may be the only recourse.

Let’s take a look at the defensive side of the ball.
