The Pittsburgh Steelers laid a beating on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11. Here’s a recap of the game.
The Steelers haven’t been great againt the Jacksonville Jaguars over almost the past two decades of football. While these two teams don’t face each other every year, Mike Tomlin owned just a 4-4 record against Jacksonville, while quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was just 5-5 against the Jags prior to Week 11. Pittsburgh, however, didn’t have a problem taking care of business this time around.
Tomlin’s team was in search of their 10th straight win to begin the 2020 season – advancing what has already been the best start in the history of the franchise. He found a win in Jacksonville this week, as the Steelers pummeled the Jaguars in a 27-3 victory.
On their first possession of the game, Jacksonville had a few big plays on offense that put them within field goal range. They took a 3-0 lead on Pittsburgh, but that would be the only points they came away with all contest. Roethlisberger and the Steelers struggled to get things going on offense early, as they scored 0 points in the entire first quarter.
The second quarter, however, was an entirely different story. Big Ben led his team to 17 unanswered points in quarter number two and added 10 more in the second half to easily secure the win. This contest couldn’t have gone much better for the Steelers.
What went right for the Steelers in Week 11
The offense really impressed at times as Pittsburgh got big games out of both Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool. However, the story of the game was clearly the defense in this contest – specifically, the pair of young safeties.
Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds combined for a whopping 4 interceptions (2 each) against Jake Luton and the Jacksonville Jaguars. While some of this had to do with being in the right place at the right time, both Steelers safeties were incredible in this contest and seemed to always be around the football.
Fitzpatrick now has an astonishing 9 interceptions since joining the Steelers in Week 3 of last season. Edmunds, on the other hand, ended a 38-game drought without an interception, as he recorded both his second and third pick of his career against Jacksonville in Week 11.
Pittsburgh’s defensive line also deserves a ton of credit for their efforts in getting after the young quarterback. Stephon Tuitt and Bud Dupree chipped in with a pair of sacks. T.J. Watt, who had a relatively quite game from a statistical standpoint, still made his presence felt on the field as he continually got after the quarterback – drawing penalties on two separate occasions.
Overall, the Steelers offense had some hiccups that saw them putting up goose eggs in both the first and third quarters. However, their defense couldn’t have played much better. If they keep this up, there isn’t a team in the league they can’t beat come playoff time.
