Loser: Rush Defense

It is alarming to see this rush defense deteriorate as poorly as it has in recent weeks. The unit started off at an elite pace earlier in the season, but recent weeks have left the unit a weak point. James Robinson only carried the ball 17 times, but he rushed for 73 yards and averaged a healthy 4.3 yards per carry.

No, this wasn’t an elite performance, but considering Robinson was the most obvious threat this week, it was alarming to see him be as effective as he was. The defense should have planned around stopping the rush first given that it was the Jaguars’ lone strength in this game. Yet the Steelers allowed Robinson and the Jaguars to easily move the ball allowing in early offensive success. While this wasn’t disastrous in the end, it was certainly concerning to see Robinson do as well as he did this week.

Unfortunately, the Steelers likely won’t be able to right this ship against the Ravens, as that offense is designed around running the ball. The best bet for this group is to clean their act up and at least pose more of a threat. Had this unit entirely shut down the run as they should have, this passing defense likely would have had an even better day. While allowing the success they did against the run wasn’t the end of the world, it wasn’t a good look this week in an otherwise dominant win.
