The Steelers haven’t had much success on Thanksgiving and a lot of their Thanksgiving games have been played as the away team.

The Steelers have not had too much success on Thanksgiving. In fact, their only win was in 1950 against the Chicago Cardinals. Yeah, it goes back aways!

Though they haven’t always had success the games have been good matchups and memorable. There was the controversial Mike Tomlin-Jacoby Jones fiasco as well as the Jerome Bettis coin flip debacle. A fan of the Steelers might just think Thanksgiving is not their day.

There is still a lot to be thankful for as Steelers fans. There are six Super Bowls, historic winning percentages, the 70s Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger, Mean Joe Greene, the Rooneys, and Jack Lambert.

1950

The Steelers won their only Thanksgiving game in 1950. It was on Thursday, November 23rd that the Steelers defeated the Chicago Cardinals in Chicago. The game was at Comisky Park which is known mostly for being the home stadium of the modern Chicago White Sox.

Chicago’s coach was the famous Curly Lambeau. He was more known for putting the modern-day Green Bay Packers on the map. Lambeau was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. This was of course before the Steelers were a known franchise. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the Steelers were considered one of the premier franchises in Football.

The Chicago Cardinals are the 1950’s Arizona Cardinals. They kept the Cardinal name but moved around to many cities. They went from Chicago to St. Louis to Phoenix and most recently known as the Arizona Cardinals.
