1988 was the year of the Jerome Bettis fiasco. The Steelers played the Lions on Thanksgiving in 1998 and the game went into overtime. Jerome Bettis was a captain and called the toss. The referee heard the wrong call on the coin toss and the Lions got the ball. The Steelers ended up losing that game in overtime.
