1939

The Steelers played their first Thanksgiving game in 1939 against the Philadelphia Eagles. They lost the game 17-14 but it was a good game. Football was different then, they had some different rules and they didn’t have the pads that the players have today.

This was a time where the Steelers were not the franchise they are today and the Green Bay Packers were the dominant team of the era. There were some of the modern franchises playing then but a lot about the franchises including the Steelers has changed in many ways since.

This was a time when the games were not played on television and the players did not play for a lot of money. This was way before the free agency era and the players mostly played for the love of the game. The players are now much bigger, faster, and stronger and the rules are different.
