C Maurkice Pouncey

There are going to be several bad cap numbers on the team next year, but Maurkice Pouncey’s is quite possibly the worst; not because he is the most expensive player on the team, but because he hasn’t been great at his job in a few years.

Pouncey is set to make nearly $14.5 million in 2021. Considering the level of play we have gotten out of him, I’d say he’s about to be grossly overpaid. According to Pro Football Focus, Pouncey is ranked 29th among 37 qualifying centers in the NFL this year. He was even worse in 2019 – grading among the very bottom of offensive linemen in the league.

It’s hard to imagine that at age 32 next year he will finally improve and return to the former player we once knew. Pouncey is an 8-time Pro Bowler and 2-time All-Pro player, but the Pro Bowl is a fan-voted honor, and he hasn’t been an All-Pro player since 2014. Pouncey has been a very good former first-round pick by the Steelers, but I think that he is one of the most overrated players they’ve had in the past 20 years. No matter how you feel about him at this stage of his career, all fans should be able to agree that he’s not worth over $14 million in 2021.
