OG David DeCastro

For my money, David DeCastro is the best offensive lineman the Steelers have had since Allan Faneca, and quite possibly one of their best five offensive linemen of all-time. However, the DeCastro we have seen over the past season-and-a-half of football hasn’t been the same dominant player we saw prior to that.

Like Pouncey, DeCastro has an impressive resume that includes numerous Pro Bowl and All-Pro appearances. However, he has earned an extremely modest overall grade over the past two seasons from Pro Football Focus, and he isn’t noticeably better than any other lineman from game to game at this point in his career.

DeCastro turns 31 years old in January, and his struggles as a run blocker this year have been a bit concerning. He will go down as a terrific pick and the best offensive lineman of this generation for the Steelers, but when he is set to have a cap number of about $14.3 million next season, it doesn’t seem worth it – even for a player with his body of work.
