The Steelers defense continues to make big plays when big plays need to be made

As has been the ‘modus operandi’ all season, the Steelers defense registered 3 sacks, one fumble recovery, and 1 INT.  That lone INT came courtesy of Joe Haden, our erstwhile free agent CB whom the Steelers signed in 2017.

Haden’s INT got the Steelers on the scoreboard by virtue of his ‘pick-six’.  Unfortunately, the extra point was missed, but at least we scored first.  After a muffed punt, the Ravens scored a TD but made the extra point, so we found ourselves losing to an undermanned, Division rival.

In the end, we won the game and that’s all that matters, but it just seemed like the defense, at times, was lethargic.  We gave up 129 yards on the ground, of which 84 yards were surrendered to the Ravens QBs.  I realize the Ravens run a style of offense that most teams are not accustomed to seeing, but we are accustomed to seeing it, so how did we allow their QBs to gain 84 yards on us?

The Steelers ‘D’ also gave up a big pass play late in the game that made it much closer than it had to be or should have been.  Honestly, I don’t know why Terrell Edmunds, our third-year SS, thought it was a good idea to try to either go for the INT or to deflect the pass, but after Edmunds fell down because he was not in a good position to do either of the aforementioned, the Ravens WR ran past everyone else into the endzone.
