The defense is not the problem

I know the Steelers allowed 14 points coming out of the second half, but don’t for a second be fooled into thinking that the defense is the issue for this team. They were so good in the first half of the game that Josh Allen had just a 34.0 passer rating heading into the tunnel. However, even a great defense can only keep a great offense down so long.

This isn’t the same Bills team we are used to facing. Allen has made incredible strides since joining the league, and he certainly looks like the real deal. In fact, for the Steelers to hold the Bills to just 19 offensive points is a huge win (7 of these came from a Ben Roethlisberger pick-six).

The fact of the matter is that this unit has shown time and again why they are the toughest defense in the league. Cameron Heyward was a beast against the Bills, while T.J. Watt drew plenty of attention, as usual. It’s just too bad that the offense struggles have to weigh them down.

The Steelers really need to consider what they have going for them on offense. I know we are in the final stretch of the season, but the quick passing game isn’t cutting it, and Ben Roethlisberger’s offense is extremely limited. They must improve in this area if they don’t want to be knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.
