Where Mike Tomlin was wrong after the Steelers Week 14 loss
I have been a huge fan of Mike Tomlin for a long time, but here’s where the Steelers head coach was wrong after their Week 14 loss.
I am going to start this off by saying that one of my favorite things about Mike Tomlin is that he can maintain the standard of consistency that we as Steelers fans have come to expect. A lot of it has to go with the continuity of the Steelers organization and that continuity coincides with how Tomlin runs his team. There is one thing that has been driving me crazy about him as of late. He keeps saying things to the script of not being worried about injuries or schedule changes because this is the nature of the NFL.
At a certain point, we all have to take a step back and realize that the Steelers are in a horrible position at the current moment. We can’t fall into the trap of thinking that the injuries are an excuse or that they don’t matter. The reality of it is that the Steelers had no business competing in the second half, and to come in with such a solid gameplan for the start of the game against one of the best offenses in the league, to the tune of holding the Bills’ offense out of the endzone for an entire half, is just remarkable. Pittsburgh should be proud of the preparation put into place.
Yet, no other coach in the league could’ve ended that game with a win. With them being down to the practice squad in the most important position group schematically of that defense, and on the offensive line I can’t possibly think of a strategy that could’ve worked after the injuries that occurred in that game. Tomlin can’t just come out and say well nobody else could’ve done it. However, with this roster and the injuries it has been dealt the second half was bound to end poorly. I give Pittsburgh credit for scoring again and even having the smallest chance of winning that game.
