The Steelers had high hopes for many players in 2020, but here’s why this season has been such a disappointment for these four guys.

With the return of Ben Roethlisberger in 2020, fans were very optimistic about Pittsburgh Steelers chances of winning a Super Bowl this year. They were even more so after watching how this team dominated early in the season.

Even with a poor stretch of games recently, the Steelers still sit on one of the best records in the National Football League. While we can certainly be pleased with the way that most of the players have been able to perform in 2020, the same cannot be said for everyone. There are four players we had high expectations for this year who proved to be monumental letdowns:

TE Eric Ebron

Much has been the story of his career, Eric Ebron has been all hype with very little results. However, there was hope that the 27-year-old tight end would revamp his career on a good Steelers team. Ebron recorded his best season in 2018 when Andrew Luck was the quarterback. In his only Pro Bowl season that year, Ebron managed to compile 66 catches for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns while in a part-time role with the Colts.

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh has not had anywhere near the same success with Eric Ebron. While his athletic traits are a plus, Ebron has not been very efficient this year. He has caught just 51 of 83 targets for 10.0 yards per reception and 4 touchdowns. However, what’s most frustrating is that he has already dropped 7 passes on the season – many of which coming in crucial moments of the game. Ebron is a pretty good football player, but he’s not the tight end of the future for the Steelers.
