You’d be hard-pressed to find a worse use of $3.25 million in the NFL right now. Sure, I understand that Derek Watt was signed for his special teams ability, but he has pretty much been an average player in this department.

On offense, he’s almost completely worthless. Not only is fullback a dead position in the NFL, but when he is on the field, he has not been good at much of anything. According to Pro Football Focus, Derek Watt has just a 39.3 overall grade on the season. This would rank him dead last in the league among fullbacks, assuming he even had enough snaps to qualify for this.

Almost as disappointing as his poor play is the fact that he has earned just 49 offensive snaps in 9 games this year. I’m not even going to want to do the math at the end of the season to see how much he earned per play. Watt is the second-highest-paid fullback in the entire NFL, and the Steelers haven’t gotten anything out of him. Fans may have had high hopes for Derek Watt coming in, but we would be shocked if we saw him do anything significant from here on out.
