4 things the Pittsburgh Steelers will not do, despite our wishes

Draft a quarterback

So, we know that the Steelers have a quarterback that turns 39 years old this offseason and has just one year remaining on his current deal. We also know that this happens to be a very deep quarterback class, and at least the first four guys that will be taken this year could prove to be long-time NFL starters – possibly even with Pro Bowl or All-Pro upside. However, despite what appears to be a perfect storm, I fully expect Pittsburgh to pass up the idea of landing their quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft.

I’m not advocating that the Steelers take a signal-caller for the sake of taking one, but most analysts and draft experts believe this would be a great year to do so. When it comes to the success of a football team, nothing is more important than landing a good quarterback, and I would not be opposed to Pittsburgh trading up in order to draft their man.

However, I really don’t think it happens. With Ben Roethlisberger nearing the home stretch of his career, the Steelers are going to want to make sure the roster around him is as good as it can possibly be next season, and spending valuable draft resources at quarterback wouldn’t be contributing to the cause in 2021. Moving up for a quarterback will be tempting – especially if one of the top four guys starts to slip, but I think the Steelers put this off for at least one more year.
