Draft a quarterback high

This might be the single most important decision the Steelers will make in the offseason, as it could potentially have implications for over a decade down the road. Obviously, no position is more important to the success of a football team than quarterback, and Pittsburgh knows the clock is ticking on Ben Roethlisberger’s career.

Even if Ben gets a short extension, it’s not too early for Pittsburgh to start grooming his replacement. This is a very good quarterback class, and the top four passers have long-term starter (and even Pro Bowl) upside. In order to land one of them, however, Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert need to be willing to trade up.

Prediction: Not this year

As much as I would be excited for the Steelers to take Roethlisberger’s replacement in a talented 2021 draft class, I don’t believe it will happen this year. I know how this team likes to operate, and their ‘win now’ mentality leads me to believe that they will want to bolster the roster and give Ben one more shot at a title. They won’t want to mortgage their draft for a player that isn’t going to help them in 2021.
