Santonio Holmes

Santonio Holmes made an improbable catch at the end of Super Bowl 43 that ended up being the game-winning touchdown in the Steelers’ most recent championship win. With less than 45 seconds left in the game, Santonio Holmes makes a toe tap catch in the corner of the endzone in triple coverage for a touchdown. There is a lot of credit to Ben for making one of the hardest throws we’ve ever seen in an NFL game. However, more credit goes to Santonio, as he had just dropped what would have been the game-winning touchdown on the previous play.

This one play did more than enough to push Holmes over the edge to make the list at number 5. His stats are not bad considering he had only played for the Steelers for 4 seasons. He is 10th among WR’s for the Steelers in receptions, 8th among WR’s in receiving yards, and 13th among WR’s in receiving touchdowns. It is hard to say how much higher he could’ve taken his career had he stayed with Pittsburgh.

The Steelers would find themselves in the big game again just 2 years later, while Holmes would never return to the big game. He would never catch a pass from a quarterback as good as Big Ben in the rest of his career.

It is sad to say that the receiver of possibly the greatest catch in super bowl history was unable to stay with the same team past his rookie contract. Yet he did enough in his short tenure in black in gold to be the 5th best receiver in franchise history for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
