Mayfield struggles

The Browns deserve a lot of credit this season, as they brought in a new regime that helped restore this franchise after the horrible Freddie Kitchens debacle. Even more so, the new regime has made Baker Mayfield look more like a legitimate franchise quarterback. The biggest thing they deserve credit for is having the ball move through Mayfield after the rushing game began to stall.

Defenses seemed to realize the Browns were going to move only through the rushing game, so the Browns decided to come out throwing the ball. It worked, as it led to a more explosive offense despite the lack of an early running game. Mayfield has confidence now, more than he had when these teams met earlier in the year. That said, I think the Steelers look to get pressure on him early and as a result, he struggles.

While the Browns have been doing wonders for Mayfield’s career this year, I think the Steelers pass rush is still strong despite the bench players seeing playing time. As a result, Mayfield comes back down to earth and struggles. While he scores twice, he has three turnovers on the day as well. It isn’t enough for the Browns to lose, but it certainly opens some questions for the playoffs.
