Steelers linebackers vs. Browns running backs

This matchup might be the scariest of all for Steelers fans this week. While Myles Garrett certainly has the potential to go off on Pittsburgh’s offensive tackles, Cleveland could control the pace of the game if the rushing attack is successful.

Though Pittsburgh was without a handful of their best defensive starters last week, the Browns chewed up one easy gain after another on the ground in route to a 192-yard, 2-touchdown performance. They did all of this while averaging 6.2 yards per attempt. Much of the reason for Pittsburgh’s struggle comes at the linebacker position. though Vince Williams and Avery Williamson both pack a punch heading downhill, they are often too late getting in position against the wide zone that Cleveland runs.

While it looks like linebacker Robert Spillane will be making his return from a knee injury he suffered back in Week 13, we don’t know how many snaps he will see in his return back to the field. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt have been the most lethal running back tandem in the NFL this year. No matter who is out there on defense, the Steelers must find a way to contain the run.

Even with a few poor performances from individual players, the Steelers may be able to do enough to overcome them and find a victory in the Wild Card round against the Browns. However, these four matchups will be huge for Pittsburgh’s success this week. Keep an eye on them on Sunday night.
