Here are five Steelers draft prospects to watch in the CFB Championship game

With the college football season wrapping up on Monday, the talk will soon shift from who won to who will be drafted. The Steelers should be paying close attention to this game, as both Alabama and Ohio State should have a surplus of draftable players in this contest.

Below is a list of five that should really interest the Steelers. Note, top prospects like DeVonta Smith and quarterbacks like Mac Jones will be excluded from this list. The top prospects will be gone before the Steelers pick and I don’t believe the team will take a quarterback early. That said, here are the five prospects the team should be watching.

Alex Leatherwood

The Steelers needing an offensive tackle isn’t a new thing. With starting left tackle Alejandro Villanueva a likely free agent, the team will be short on depth and starting more inexperienced options as a result. The Steelers will likely select a tackle in this draft, the question will be how early though. If an option like Alex Leatherwood makes it to the Steelers, he would be hard to pass up.

Leatherwood is one of the top tackle prospects in the draft this year. That said, there are a couple of highly-rated tackles in this class. Leatherwood seems like a mid to late first-rounder right now which would put him squarely in the conversation for the Steelers’ top pick. If he has a great championship game and a strong pre-draft process, he could push his stock higher than the Steelers will be. That said, the team needs to do their due diligence on Leatherwood as he makes a lot of sense for the Steelers.
