5 players Steelers should watch in the CFB Championship game
By Andrew Falce
Trey Sermon
On the flip side of things, Ohio State has a running back that has burst onto the field in recent weeks. While he is a senior, he has never been a workhorse at the college level until recently. Since then though, he has run away with the job, becoming a central figure in Ohio State’s offense over their past two games. While smaller than Harris, Trey Sermon runs with similar power and can still be a power back for the Steelers if they add him.
What makes him a better prospect overall is his worse draft stock and his lower overall usage. He has only touched the ball 500 times overall in his collegiate season, and his recent surge in production could lead to a decent draft position. Josh Jacobs had a similar college story, as his limited talented bursts made him a good prospect as he had less wear and tear on his body.
More to the point, Sermon is currently being projected a fourth-round pick. A good championship game and a decent pre-draft process will likely push that into day two of the draft, but it won’t sniff where Harris will likely end up getting drafted. This makes Sermon a far better prospect for the Steelers, as the lessor investment and lighter workload could lead to longer success in the league. He is definitely a name the Steelers should keep in mind.
