Cut Eric Ebron

I know releasing both of your top tight ends in one offseason seems like a stretch, but I’m telling you right now that their losses would not be hard to overcome in 2021 – mostly because both Eric Ebron and Vance McDonald have been terrible as blockers. In the passing game, Ebron offered more this season, but he was still far from a reliable safety valve, as the former first-round draft choice dropped the ball 9 times this year counting the playoff game against the Browns.

Though it may take a little bit more than the veteran minimum to replace Ebron in free agency, the amount of money Pittsburgh would save makes cutting him a decision that would be hard to pass on. Eric Ebron is going to cost the Steelers $8.5 million against the cap this year and the team could save a whopping $6 million with his release.

I know teams don’t typically want to overhaul an entire position in one year, but the stars are aligning for both tight ends to be let go. With Pittsburgh’s top two tight ends accounted for $16.4 million against the cap this year, the Steelers should be able to find comparable players for at a fraction of the price.
