Alex Leatherwood, OT, Alabama

Alex Leatherwood is an absolute mauler that will be a good tackle at the next level. At this point in the draft, it would be very hard for the team to ignore this huge position of need for the Steelers. Leatherwood is one of the best tackles in the draft class and has a mean streak to him. Tackles always go quickly in the draft so do not be shocked if his name starts to dwindle from him becoming a Steelers player. This is a position that is always over-drafted but the black and gold could still make it a reality. He still needs work but he just turned 22 a couple of weeks ago so he has time. His abilities now would allow him to compete and probably win the starting Left Tackle spot in camp. He would be a great starting tackle for years to come as Ben Roethlisberger’s career nears the end and the future horizon begins.

Tackles are always coveted in the NFL so do not be surprised if his name continues to move up the boards of NFL teams. If he or another tackle falls to their choice, then it will be very hard for Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin to pass on. Picks like these might not be the “sexy pick” but they’re so important and needed to succeed in this league.
