Ben Roethlisberger’s career could be coming to an end. Here five potential streamer quarterbacks for the Steelers in 2021.
With Ben Roethlisberger still unconfirmed as to what he is going to do in 2021, the Steelers need to make a contingency plan at quarterback in case they are without him. This will likely mean streaming a quarterback for a year or two as the team looks for their next franchise player. A streamer quarterback needs to be two things: good enough to start and hold their own and cheap. This doesn’t mean these quarterbacks will guide the team to a Super Bowl, but they can hold down the fort next year if need be.
Here are the five most realistic streamer quarterbacks for the Steelers in 2021.
Joe Flacco
While it may cause many a fan to wrinkle their nose, Joe Flacco makes a lot of sense on a cheap one-year deal. Will this mean the Steelers should expect a lot of success, no, but they could mount an almost respectable offense with Flacco at the helm. On the plus side, Flacco has a decent arm and can hold his own in the pocket. While his skills are in regression, he may have one more year of ok play in him.
The main issue with him is that Flacco obviously has no long-term future as a starting quarterback. This would be a one and done type thing, where Flacco wins the team a few games to set them up to draft a long-term replacement. Would this be ideal, not really, but it would work for a year. As well, Flacco would likely only play for around the minimum, so he will be cheap. While it wouldn’t be an exciting move, the team streaming Flacco for a year could work if worst came to worse.
