Steelers 2021 Senior Bowl: 3 players to watch on the National team
Tarron Jackson, OLB, Coastal Carolina
Tarron Jackson is a very interesting prospect that could gain a lot with a huge week at the Senior Bowl. He is not a highly rated prospect on most NFL boards but a big week here could catapult him. Alex Highsmith was a small-school prospect and so is Jackson. He comes out of the small University of Coastal Carolina. The program had an amazing season and so did this edge rusher. They have not consistently played high-end talent and that will cause players to get buried on boards. A nice week of practice and game-time against some of the top offensive linemen in the country will allow him to jump up those boards.
The position of outside linebacker doesn’t seem like it would be a giant need but with Bud Dupree leaving via free agency, the depth will be starting to fade away. Adding Jackson would provide immediate depth and a prospect with a high ceiling to the dynamic pass-rushing specialists already on the roster.
Jackson’s size kind of mimics Dupree’s as he stands a little shorter at 6’2 but around the same weight, sitting at 270 pounds. The thing this player needs to develop most is balance around the edge. Sometimes he allows the blocker to get him off balance and therefore he loses his opportunity of getting after the passer.
The Senior Bowl is one of the first major events to the offseason draft evaluation process. Keep watch of these three players on the National team as the week goes by. They could very well be on the Steelers radar this April.
