Round 5 (pick 204): Luke Farrell, TE, Ohio State

If this were a really good tight end class, I could see the Steelers looking for the position as early as round one. However, Florida’s Kyle Pitts should be a top-15 pick this year and the second-best tight end, Pat Freiermuth, will likely fall between Pittsburgh’s first and second-round picks.

Because of the severe lack of depth at the position in the middle of the draft, I have the Steelers waiting until the fifth round to grab their guy. Much like former tight end, Jesse James, Luke Farrell isn’t overly impressive, but he does offer a big body and the ability to pose as an inline blocker. This is what Pittsburgh is lacking from their tight end room.

Round 5 (pick 224): Michael Menet, C, Penn State

There are really only a handful of centers that get drafted each year. Unfortunately, if the Steelers don’t take one in the first round, the top two prospects in Creed Humphrey and Landon Dickerson could both be off the board by their pick in the second round. Still, with the report that Maurkice Pouncey is likely to retire, the Steelers will need to fill the position. Michael Menet doesn’t offer an elite skill set, but he’s an experienced player who could come in and compete for a roster spot – maybe even earn a starting gig down the road.
