Sam Darnold

This trade scenario is less than ideal for me, but it could turn out to be the most likely of them all. The New York Jets have been a horrible football team over the past few seasons, I would be astonished if they didn’t hit the reset button and make a move for a new passer this offseason – whether that is through the draft or trading for Deshaun Watson.

Sam Darnold is much less desirable than some of the other quarterbacks who could be on the block this offseason. He threw just 9 touchdowns to 11 interceptions last year and his 6.1 yards per attempt were embarrassingly low. However, a new start could be exactly what Darnold needs, and I can see the Steelers giving him one if Ben is let go.

Still just 23 years old, Darnold is extremely young with some NFL experience under his belt and a lot of tools to work with. Though he’s not a runner, Darnold moves very well in the pocket for his size and has an arm that can cut through the swirling winds in Pittsburgh. He’s clearly got more upside than Mason Rudolph or Dwayne Haskins; however, he has just one year remaining on his rookie deal and the Steelers will quickly have to make a decision about whether or not to give him a huge extension.
