Here is a redraft of the Steelers 2020 draft picks

They say hindsight is 2020, and while the Steelers had a good draft class last year, there are ways to improve upon it. If a player isn’t reselected, it isn’t due to them not being a good player or a great fit necessarily. Instead, it has to do with the value that they could have elsewhere in the draft. With that said, here is my redraft of the Steelers 2020 draft.

Round 2:

Antonio Gibson, RB

Original pick: Chase Claypool, WR

This wasn’t an easy choice to make, as the Steelers seemingly hit a home run with Chase Claypool in the draft. While the team should be thrilled to have him, there was a receiver taken later in the draft that could have made this pick more open. As well, given the depth at receiver going into the draft, it may have made sense to wait a round or two before getting a receiver.

With the Steelers running back woes and the lack of production they got out of Anthony McFarland, it would have made sense for the team to grab Antonio Gibson here instead. His rookie season was a good one, serving as the primary rushing threat for the Football team as well as a good receiver threat to boot. While his stats were similar to J.K. Dobbins, I think Gibson has better longevity due to his size and limited usage as a runner in college.

While the debate is close for Claypool or even Dobbins, I think Gibson would be the best fit for the team going forward. He is a unique weapon that should thrive as a complete back in an offense. While Claypool has the best potential of all three, the team could (and in this redraft, will) find a better value at receiver later. Gibson allows for the team to fix the running back position earlier and would allow them to not have to focus on the position as heavily this year.
