Steelers may look to move on

If these reasons aren’t enough by themselves, it’s entirely possible that the Steelers could just be ready to move on, and it makes perfect sense why. Though it’s improbably that Mason Rudolph is the answer moving forward, he is under contract for just one more season and Pittsburgh may like to see what they have in him before deciding whether or not to give him a contract extension. Rudolph did show some promise during the final game of the season, and it’s possible that he could even be an upgrade over Ben during the 2021 season at a fraction of the price.

It’s also possible that the Steelers could be more interested in drafting or trading for a quarterback this year than anyone realizes. There are set to be a few more quarterbacks who are deal this offseason, and perhaps they could make a play for someone like Sam Darnold. The NFL Draft is also an option and there are expected to be five first-round quarterbacks this year. If they like one of them well enough, they could set their eyes to the future and move up to get one. This could allow Mason Rudolph to start for at least half a season before going with a rookie at the helm.
