Jameis Winston

I know there are a lot of fans out there who turn a sour face at the thought of starting a guy like Jameis Winston. While Winston never lived up to expectations as a former number one overall pick back in 2015, it’s not like the Steelers would be making a huge investment in him at this point.

Winston will be looking for any opportunity to land a starting gig next season, and perhaps New Orleans will be the team to give it to him. If not, the Steelers could make a call. Despite his whopping 88 interceptions over his first 76 career games, there are still far worse options out there than Jameis Winston.

Though his decision-making has been questionable at best throughout his career, his arm talent is far superior to anyone currently on Pittsburgh’s roster. At this point in his career, it’s incredibly unlikely that Winston could reclaim his status or live up to the lofty expectations we had when he was drafted, but he could make the Steelers competitive for the 2021 season before turning to a younger, more promising quarterback in 2022. Winston deserves another shot to compete for a starting role and he can get that in Pittsburgh if Big Ben retires.
