John Elway was a big fan of Drew Lock coming out of the 2019 NFL Draft. But now that the Hall of Fame quarterback and Broncos president of football operations has turned over his day-to-day operations to a full-time general manager, they could very likely move in a new direction.

The Lock experiment didn’t quite work out as Elway had planned. Though the former Missouri quarterback showed promise as a rookie last year, he really struggled in 2020 – completing just 57 percent of his passes for 16 touchdowns and a league-leading 15 interceptions. In addition, his 5.8 adjusted yards per attempt were insanely low.

Roethlisberger isn’t exactly the gun-slinger he used to be, but at least he has gotten better at taking care of the ball in his old age. Ben would be an immediate upgrade over one of the league’s worst starting quarterbacks. Whether or not he could take a five-win team from a year ago into the playoffs remains to be seen, but at the very least, he could be a solid stopgap quarterback as Denver explores options to find a new QB of the future.
