Here are five free agents the Steelers have to consider in 2021

While the Steelers are likely going to be in a tough position money-wise this offseason, they have seemingly gotten some good news as of now. With the recent retirements and the speculation that the cap could be closer to 198.2 million as opposed to 175 million, the team may not be in as desperate of a position. While this still won’t mean that they can be huge players, it could allow for an outside signing or two to occur. Here are five free agents the Steelers have to consider this offseason.

Dede Westbrook

At one point, Dede Westbrook looked like an up-and-coming slot receiver in the NFL, as his quick routes made him a good fit on the inside. With the Jaguars adding quite a few bodies to the position and the offense lacking as a whole though, Westbrook never took the next step needed to be a great receiver. A new offense will likely do him a lot of good, and the Steelers should be ready to welcome him with open arms.

Assuming that JuJu Smith-Schuster leaves in free agency, the team will be in need of a new slot receiver. While they could opt to draft one, adding Westbrook as a cheap free agent would work as well. The Steelers could likely get him at or close to the minimum, and he could be scheduled in as a slot only option for the team. Add in his ability as a returner and the team could get a really good return on investment by signing Westbrook. Would he be a pro bowler? No, but he could help the team transition from Smith-Schuster.
