If the Steelers are going to sit at pick 24 and not move up in the draft, Penei Sewell, Rashan Slater, and Christian Darrisaw will all be off the board. Of the next tier of offensive linemen, Samuel Cosmi may have the best chance to be a legitimate starting left tackle in the NFL. However, he’s far from a finished product.

Though Cosmi started at left tackle each of the past two seasons for the Texas Longhorns, he has a lot of work to do with his technique. Cosmi can be late out of his stance at times and often bends at the waist instead of the knees. Still, his athletic traits and ability to open his hips and glide effortlessly while keeping pass rushers in front of him is impressive.

For the Steelers, I would feel a whole lot better about Cosmi’s development if offensive line coach Mike Munchak was still around. Samuel Cosmi had solid enough tape this year to warrant first-round consideration, but he still has a long way to go and he could fail without the proper coaching. However, he’s a legitimate left tackle prospect if someone can refine his technique.
