Steven Nelson

Nelson has been a great addition since he joined the team through free agency. Signing him to an extension now would lower his cap number for the upcoming season. He currently has a cap hit of around 14 million and that would be significantly reduced by re-signing him. He is currently scheduled to become a free agent after next season concludes. Extending him now would also take the pressure off of both him and Joe Haden possibly being lost to the free agency process next year.

TJ Watt

Watt will be extended at some point this offseason. This just seems like a when and not if scenario. The team and city loves what he brings to this defense. He is a special player that should have won Defensive Player of the Year. Watt consistently dominates every week against his competition.

Mike Hilton/Cam Sutton

The Steelers want to bring back both of these young corners before free agency happens. It will be a tough situation as the team might have to pick one or the other. If they can get both to come back then it would be huge for the future at cornerback in the Steel City. Not bringing back both or either would be a huge loss for this team.

It will be interesting to see how the black and gold maneuver in these murky waters of cap compliance. The Steelers have a lot of work to accomplish this offseason.
