The Steelers have a lot of positions that will need to be filled in 2021. Here are the five biggest needs currently on the roster.

After free agency and as we draw closer to the draft, we should have a much better understanding of Pittsburgh’s needs this April. However, this is an unusual year for the Steelers. In previous offseasons, Mike Tomlin’s team may have had one or two glaring holes and it would have been much easier to predict where they would go early in the draft.

This year is just the opposite. With two veterans now retired and 19 unrestricted free agents who could potentially hit the market this month, the Steelers have a lot of needs to fill. Here are their five biggest needs as we approach the 2021 NFL Draft:

1. Center

Though center is far from the most important position on a football team, it is without a doubt the biggest need for the Steelers at the moment. Even when Maurkice Pouncey was on the roster, Pittsburgh was in need of a serious upgrade, but now that he’s officially gone, that need has increased tenfold.

J.C. Hassenauer is the only other center currently on the roster, but even he is an exclusive rights free agent. Even if the team decides to bring him back next year, he clearly showed that he’s not worthy of a starting position, and this leaves a massive hole in the middle of the offensive line. Center will be a high priority for the Steelers in the NFL Draft if it is not addressed in free agency.
