Despite the Steelers cap struggles, there are four pending free agents that must be brought back to the team.

While the Steelers are facing some dire times in terms of their available cap space, there are still some of their potential free agents that the team needs to pursue heavily. This can be for a wide variety of reasons, from their play, to their potential, to their projected cost, these players make the most sense to be re-signed. While the team will have to make do with their low cap space, each of these players are worth a look.

Here are the four pending free agents that the Steelers must find a way to re-sign.

Robert Spillane

There were a lot of questions that popped up on this defense when Devin Bush went down for the season. While not all of the questions were answered by Robert Spillane, he did more than enough to earn the admiration and respect of the Steelers. He was a surprising athletic fill-in who read plays well and handled most of the green dot responsibilities before getting injured. While his play was far from perfect, he has the look of an average to above-average starter in this league.

While he is set to be without a contract, he will be one of the easiest choices to bring back this offseason. He is set to be an exclusive rights free agent, which means he will likely be given a tender for the minimum that can’t be competed with by other teams. It would be shocking if the Steelers don’t offer him such a deal. Stranger things have happened, but the team needs to ensure that Spillane is on the roster heading into training camp.
