Mond is today’s NFL quarterback

Mond doesn’t seem like the type of quarterback the Steelers typically look for, but that may not be a bad thing. While he is poised in the pocket, Mond also has the ability to extend the play and get outside the framework. While he isn’t a spectacular runner with the football, he has still managed to compile 1,609 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground.

Running with the ball isn’t the only thing that could attract the Steelers to a player like Mond. Unlike many college quarterbacks, Mond already looks like a veteran in his ability to stand in the pocket and go through progressions. However, unlike all of the passers currently on Pittsburgh’s roster, Mond has the ability to elude defenders and extend the play with his legs.

Today’s NFL looks very different than it did a decade ago, and it’s more important than ever to have a quarterback that can beat you more than one way. The Steelers should be starting to understand this, as they see how valuable players like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson have been to their respective teams. Mond won’t be one of the best runners in the NFL, but he certainly meets the athletic threshold many teams are looking for now at the quarterback position.
