Chase Winovich

The Steelers brought the whole kitten caboodle to see Devin Bush at Michigan’s Pro Day in 2019, and they ended up trading up to draft him in the first round. However, he wasn’t the only player they were eyeing at the time. Pittsburgh had a need for a pass rusher, and they showed an obvious interest in Chase Winovich – so much so that they even took him out to dinner after his Pro Day.

While Pittsburgh eventually passed on the chance to draft Winovich in favor of wide receiver Diontae Johnson, they may once again have a chance to obtain his services at a discounted price. The Patriots recently forked up a big contract to free agent Matthew Judon, and there are rumors that they may be willing to part with Winovich via trade. For the cost of maybe just a day-three pick, the Steelers could land the speedy pass rusher.

Though Winovich probably wouldn’t be a full-time starter for the Steelers, he would serve in a rotational role with Alex Highsmith in Dupree’s former spot at right outside linebacker. His 4.59 speed and terrific change of direction skills would be a most welcomed addition to Pittsburgh, as Winovich was made to play in this 3-4 blitz-heavy scheme.
