Steelers need to find Maurkice Pouncey’s replacement

Maurkice Pouncey called it a career earlier this offseason as he retired after an amazing run. It leaves a major hole at the center position in the middle of the offensive line. A replacement will be hard to find but it is not impossible to make a reality. Bringing back B.J. Finney was a nice move for depth and competition but he is not the answer this team is looking for. They need someone that can be a starter for now and into the future. Those players do not always grow on trees but this team needs to find one in free agency or the draft in the coming months.

There are still some reliable options out in the free agency pool like veteran Austin Blythe who is one of the best-underrated centers on the market. If the team could bring him aboard then they have a solid starter and good depth along the interior of the line.

Drafting is the strongest thing about the Steelers franchise other than their stability. They consistently draft well and develop those picks into amazing players. They could always draft a center somewhere in the first couple of rounds and have that player come in and immediately challenge and probably win the starting spot. This position is so important as they’re the communicators across the offensive trenches and getting a new starter is very important going forward.
