The Steelers need to make some roster moves with limited funds. Here are five second-wave free agents they could still sign in 2021.

With the recent purge of players on the Steelers roster, the team suddenly finds itself depleted of talent all over its roster. While a lot of this was expected, some, like Steven Nelson and Tyson Alualu, were unexpected and leave huge holes on the roster.

Luckily, the team has over 12 million dollars in cap space to work with, meaning that moves can still be made. While the initial fever of free agency has passed, there are still plenty of talented options the team can sign. Here are five free-agent targets for the Steelers during the second wave of free agency.

CB Gareon Conley

With the recent release of Nelson, the Steelers will be in the market for a new cornerback. While Cameron Sutton will take on a brunt of the responsibilities, they will need another body to complete the starting trio unless they are truly comfortable with their young backups stepping up. While there are some bigger names out there, Gareon Conley seems like the prototypical signing for the team. He has a high pedigree, is young, and should come in extremely cheap.

This doesn’t mean he will be a slam dunk to start, as Conley has seen his fair share of struggles in the league. That said, he has experience starting and could allow some other corners the chance to develop more before becoming starters. It is hard to imagine his contract being much over the minimum, as his questionable play shouldn’t commend big money. That said, he would be an able body to fill in for the now-departed Nelson.
