The Steelers brought their brass to Penn State’s Pro Day. Here are three more early-round candidates that Pittsburgh will consider in the 2021 NFL Draft.

As NFL Pro Days continue, we are starting to get a much clearer picture of who the Steelers could be selecting early in the 2021 NFL Draft. Ten football programs held their Pro Day on March 25th – Penn State being the most notable of the group. Despite a number of schools to choose from, it wasn’t surprising to see Pittsburgh have their brass on hand.

While the list of potential early-round prospects continues to grow, the fact that both Mike Tomlin and Kevin were present at Penn State’s Pro Day puts three more players high on their draft radar. With some exceptional performances on Thursday, it’s not hard to see why the Steelers could fall in love with one of these players as early as the 24th overall pick in the draft:

EDGE Jayson Oweh

Here’s a player who has somewhat flown under the radar until this point in the draft process. If you were to put on some Jayson Oweh film, you’ll probably be left wanting more. Despite terrific size and athletic traits, Oweh was surprisingly unproductive. Over the course of three years (20 games) at Penn State, Oweh comprised just 13.5 tackles for a loss and 7.0 sacks. He’s never had more than 6.5 tackles for a loss in a single season and the fact that he could be a first-round pick without a single sack to his name in 7 games in 2020 is a bit concerning.

Still, his freakish traits are going to have him landing somewhere in the back half of the first round. Oweh tested off-the-charts at his Pro Day. At 6’5” and 257 pounds, Oweh recorded a 4.36 40-yard dash, a 39.5” vertical, and a 134” broad jump in addition to elite agility testing. Tomlin is a sucker for a great athlete as he has shown in the past, and Oweh happens to play one of Pittsburgh’s most coveted positions. Consider him a very possible candidate at pick 24.
