TE Pat Freiermuth

Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert weren’t the only members of the Steelers organization who made the short trip over to Penn State for their Pro Day. Joining them was tight end coach, Alfredo Roberts, and apparently, he and Penn State tight end, Pat Freiermuth, have met a couple of times before. Freiermuth hasn’t been labeled as a true first-round prospect by many, and it’s entirely possible that he could land somewhere between Pittsburgh’s first and second-round pick.

The big tight end is still recovering from shoulder surgery, so he didn’t participate in workouts, but he still offers plenty of intrigue for the Steelers. Freiermuth is the only true do-it-all tight end in this class, in my opinion. He’s a player you can lineup just about anywhere and with his combination of size strength and solid athleticism.

Freiermuth probably wouldn’t have tested off the charts like some of his Penn State teammates, but he’s widely considered the second-best tight end prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft after Florida’s Kyle Pitts. The fact that Pittsburgh had their top two dogs along with Alfredo Roberts on hand shows just how serious they are about potentially drafting Freiermuth this April. I’m not sure if he will be available to the Steelers in round two, but he is certainly on their radar.
