CB Caleb Farley

Just a few months ago, Caleb Farley was considered to be a lock top-15 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, that seems to have changed. After suffering a back injury while deadlifting, teams are now concerned about some lingering health issues, and the talented Virginia Tech cornerback could slip in the draft as a result.

Farley reportedly had a Zoom meeting with head coach Mike Tomlin prior to his Pro Day, and the Steelers head coach is no stranger to drafting Virginia Tech defensive backs in the first round (they did so in 2018 with Terrell Edmunds). Pittsburgh isn’t going to like the fact that he opted out of the 2020 season, but he is certainly gone before this point had he elected to play his junior season this year.

With Steven Nelson and Mike Hilton now gone, Pittsburgh is missing two of their top four cornerbacks from last season, and it’s certainly possible that they make it a priority to find one in the first two days of the draft. Outside of Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn, Farley is considered the next-best cornerback prospect in this draft. If his medicals check out, he could be in play for the Steelers with the 24th overall pick in the draft this year.
