The Pittsburgh Steelers still have some free agents looking for employment out in the open market so the team could bring them back.
Free agency is never an easy time for Steelers fans as the cap issues normally mean some of the fan favorites will be departing the franchise. It’s not easy to see some players leave even though they are getting rewarded for their efforts through financial means.
Some players have returned to the team this offseason but a majority have taken their talents to another squad in the NFL. Those that were lost include names like Bud Dupree, Mike Hilton, Matt Feiler, and many more starters that left for big paychecks elsewhere. There are other players still looking for a place to play for the upcoming season and those unemployed could always return back to Pittsburgh if there is not much of a market out there.
Jayrone Elliott, Edge
Jayrone Elliott might not be known by most Steelers fans but he might still be brought back. The team has brought him back on multiple occasions and it should happen again. The depth behind T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith is extremely scarce so finding players behind them needs to happen very soon. Elliott might not be the most significant depth signing but the team needs to find some even if they draft an edge rusher in the upcoming draft.
They need special team players and Elliott carries that experience with him. The team already re-signed Cassius Marsh earlier in the offseason but that just won’t fix the problem. They will need more players on the depth chart and for training camp competition going forward. The need at this position is high and the team will probably look to fill the depth chart behind the two starters through free agency and the draft over the next couple of months.
