OT Christian Darrisaw

Christian Darrisaw has been a fan favorite since early in the NFL Draft process. The big offensive lineman graded out as one of the best tackles in the league this year, according to Pro Football Focus, and it’s possible that he is off the board much earlier than the 24th overall pick in this draft. Still, Pittsburgh should have done their due diligence with him. Virginia Tech’s Pro Day was just on March 26th, but Tomlin and Colbert elected to go to Michigan instead to scout edge defender Kwity Paye and offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield.

There have been some rumors that Christian Darrisaw has some work-ethic issues and this could cause him to slide in the draft. But with defensive backs coach Teryl Austin on hand, it isn’t his responsibility to report on what he saw from Darrisaw.

The Steelers clearly have a big need to find some long-term solutions at the position. While they were able to retain Zach Banner on a two-year deal, the 27-year-old has just two starts since joining the league in 2017, and there is no guarantee that he is the answer Pittsburgh is looking for. In addition, Chukwuma Okorafor really struggled last year and Alejandro Villanueva may have already played his last snap with the team. Darrisaw is a very impressive player with the traits to be a true left tackle in the NFL, but the Steelers just didn’t show enough interest in him this offseason.
