Steelers mock draft round 4: Divine Deablo

With the first of their fourth-round selections, I have the Steelers going with a player from yet another trusted school. Virginia Tech’s Divine Deablo is a player Pittsburgh has shown interest in this offseason. They had a chance to talk with him at the Senior Bowl this year and the Steelers sent defensive back coach, Teryl Austin to his Pro Day.

At 6’3” and 226 pounds, Deablo is massive for safety, and will likely make the switch to linebacker in the NFL. This isn’t a bad thing, as Deablo already possesses solid coverage skills and isn’t lacking in physicality. Based on their visits this offseason, Pittsburgh looks like they will make it a point to draft another athletic linebacker to pair with Devin Bush. After suffering through the play of Vince Williams and Avery Williamson last year, it’s not hard to see why.

For the Steelers, Deablo could come in and compete for defensive snaps next to Bush in nickel packages and will eventually be given the chance to compete for a starting role. However, that may not come until a few years down the line. Deablo was a quality player for the Hokies over the past five years and is coming off a 4-interception season in just 9 games. He will add speed and playmaking ability to the middle of Pittsburgh’s defense.
