Steelers Mock Draft: Pittsburgh trusts their favorite football programs

Steelers mock draft round 6: Cade Johnson
Cade Johnson is the exact type of wide receiver the Steelers love drafting on day three: a small-school player who really impressed with his route running and concentration at the Senior Bowl. Though Johnson measures in at just 5’10 1/2” and tested as a 30th percentile athlete, according to Relative Athletic Score, this is the same type of profile as a player like Antonio Brown coming out of Central Michigan in 2010. Johnson could work as the team’s fifth receiver and attempt to work his way up the ladder.
Steelers mock draft round 7: Nick Lenners
It would be a bit surprising if the Steelers waited this long in the NFL Draft to grab their tight end – especially considering that there is next to no depth behind Eric Ebron. However, this is a weak group of players outside of the top five, and most of the top prospects will be gone before their third-round pick. Nick Lenners has only played in 13 college games but has some traits that could help him stick on an NFL roster.
Steelers mock draft round 7: Cole Van Lanen
Anytime you take an offensive lineman this late in the draft, it is strictly for depth purposes. While the Steelers found a success story in Kelvin Beachum in round seven, the same cannot be expected for Cole Van Lanen. Still, he could add depth to one of the weaker positions on the team and compete for one of the final spots on the roster in 2021.
The Steelers have many needs to fill and it will interesting to see the order in which they choose to do so. In a year of uncertainty, I have them sticking with some schools they trust early in the 2021 NFL Draft.
