2. Steelers have had their eye on all the top edge rushers in this class

There are plenty of different opinions about who the Steelers are most likely eyeing with their top selection this year, but their interest in the draft’s top edge defenders is undeniable. In fact, I can certainly argue that Pittsburgh has shown more interest in the top edge rushers than at any other position in the league.

While everyone seems to think that they will go with a running back or offensive lineman in the first round, the Steelers have met with just two top running backs this year, and didn’t feel that it was even important enough to send Mike Tomlin or Kevin Colbert to North Carolina to watch Javonte Williams perform at his Pro Day. Likewise, Pittsburgh has shown little regard for some prominent offensive linemen like Texas’ Samuel Cosmi, Oklahoma State’s Tevin Jenkins, and Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw.

On the other hand, Tomlin and Colbert have met with every one of the top edge rushers in this year’s draft class including Azeez Ojulari, Kwity Paye, Jayson Oweh, and Jaelan Phillips. At least a few of these players will fall to pick 24 and Pittsburgh has not made it a secret to hide their interest in them. These names will certainly be in contention in the first round.
